 Geoffrey Decker is a seasoned software developer, educator, and mainframe expert with over 34 years of experience. After working in the mutual fund industry as a mainframe software developer, he transitioned to teaching computer science at NIU in 2001. Mr. Decker's passion lies in instructing students at all levels, specializing in mainframe/enterprise development and programming languages such as COBOL, Assembler, JCL, C++, C, and Java.

With a deep understanding of Cloud and Big Data technologies, SQL, Db2, CA-DATACOM DB, IMS, VSAM, SDLC, and Object-Oriented Systems Analysis and Design, he equips his students with valuable skills. Additionally, Mr. Decker occasionally works as a mainframe consultant, applying his expertise to real-world projects. He has received multiple Excellence in Teaching awards from NIU's Department of Computer Science's Student Advisory Board, reflecting his commitment to providing exceptional education.

Beyond the world of technology, Geoffrey Decker finds fulfillment in his hobbies. He showcases his musical talent as a French horn player for the local municipal band and community orchestra. His love for history, classical music, and opera drives him to write program notes for concerts and contribute to classical music reviews. Fluent in German, he enjoys exploring the language through speaking, reading, and writing.
